The conference on Friday 15 May explored the implications of recent developments in the use of portfolios for teaching, learning and assessment in the healthcare professions. It also looked at the lessons learned in relation to the conduct of BEME reviews. The conference was informed by plenary presentations and by two recent BEME reviews on the use of portfolios in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Pre-conference workshops on Thursday 14 May included:

  • Portfolio assessment (Erik Driessen, Maastricht University)
  • Lessons from a review of the use of portfolios in a medical school (Colin Macdougall, Warwick Medical School)
  • Searching for evidence (Alex Haig, NHS Education for Scotland)
  • Evaluating the evidence (Marilyn Hammick, Education and Research Consultant)
