Are BEME reviews systematic or can systematic reviews be done in BEME?

Morris Gordon (Chair of BREC), Michele Daniel (Deputy chair of BREC) and Madalena Patricio (Chair of BEME) have recently published a piece in Medical Teacher regarding review types within the field. The question of review types and what defines a systematic vs other type of review has been a pervasive one within BEME and this paper discusses the issue and concludes that almost all review methodologies can be completed in a fashion that is BEME compatible ie. Systematic. But this is not the same as a Cochrane style systematic review and yet adds value. This is a good starting point for authors planning a review.
